Geography
The village of Golovkino is located on the left bank of Nemonin a, not far from its mouth on the Curonian lagoon, below the canals extending from Nemonin: Polesskoye to the south (leading to Deyma ) and Primorsky to the north (leading to Matrosovka ). 4 km above Golovkin, the Golovkinsky Canal of the same name flows into Nemonin. Below Golovkin on the right bank of the Nemonin is the nearest neighboring village of Malaya Matrosovka .
History
The settlement belongs to the historical region of ancient Prussia by the name of Nadrovia .
In 1874, the fishing village of Nemonien gave its name to a rural area in Labiau County.
In 1938, the authorities of Hitler Germany renamed Nemonien to Elhverder as part of the campaign for the Germanization of place names of Prussian- Lithuanian origin.
January 22, 1945 Elhverder was taken by the troops of the 3rd Belorussian Front of the Red Army .
In 1946 it was renamed the village of Golovkino [2] .
