Two-bearded bearded man ( Latin: Andropogon distachyos ) is a type species of the genus Bearded man ( Andropogon ) of the Cereals family ( Poaceae ).

Name Etymology

The species epithet is formed from lat. di - “two” and Greek. σταχυϛ - “ear”, i.e. literally "two-spike" ^[2] .

Botanical Description

Perennial herbaceous plant 0.5-0.7 m high with thin, erect, smooth stems . Hemicryptophyte .

The leaves are whole, alternate, covered with silky pubescence. Internodes and pedicels from linear to club-shaped, pubescent.

The flowers are green or purple, collected in terminal brushes 4-14 cm long, consisting of two spikelets , each 5-7 cm long. Flowering from May to June.

The fruit is an oblong caryopsis , flattened behind ^[2] ^[3] .

Distribution and habitat

A two-billed bearded man lives in the south of the Sinai Mountains . It grows in Mediterranean forests and shrubs, semi-steppes, shrub steppes ^[2] ^[3] .
