Early life
Lana Wood was born in the family of Russian émigrés Nikolai Stepanovich Zakharenko, born in Vladivostok , and Maria Stepanovna Zudilova, born in Barnaul , who, becoming citizens of the United States, changed their last name to Gurdin. Just like her older sister, Natalie Wood , she began her career as a child, but did not have the success of her sister's level. Her first major prominent role was in the 1956 western “ Searchers, ” where her sister was shot [1] .
Career
It took Wood ten years to sign a contract with the studio of 20th Century Fox , after which she played one of the main roles in the short-lived TV series “Long Hot Summer”, based on the same film, after which Wood was shot in prime-time soapy Peyton Place as Sandy Webber [1] .
In 1971, Lana Wood posed for Playboy magazine , despite the objections of her sister, but this was one of the reasons she got the role of the girl James Bond in the movie “ Diamonds forever ” [2] . Despite the success of the film, the adult career of the actress was not very successful, and she mostly starred in low-budget films, episodes of television series such as Dr. Markus Welby , Baretta and Starsky and Hutch , and also played small roles in her sister's films.
On November 29, 1981, Natalie Wood drowned near Catalina Island under strange circumstances. In 1984, Lana wrote the book Natalie: A Memoir by Her Sister , in which she stated that her sister's husband, Robert Wagner , had stopped communicating with her immediately after Natalie's death. In 2002, she released a second book about her sister’s life, Natasha: The Biography of Natalie Wood . In 2004, Lana Wood acted as producer and one of the authors of the biographical documentary film “The Riddle of Natalie Wood,” directed by Peter Bogdanovich [3] .
Personal life
Lana Wood has been married four times; she has a daughter from her last marriage with Richard Smedley. She had romance with actors: Warren Beatty , Ryan O'Neill , Alain Delon and Sean Connery , whom she describes in her autobiography.
