Geography
The city is located in the northeastern part of the ostan, in the valley of the Atrek river, south of the Kopetdag ridge. The absolute height is 1104 meters above sea level [2] . Shirvan is located approximately 50 kilometers east of Bojnurd , the provincial capital and 595 kilometers east-northeast (ENE) of Tehran , the country's capital.

According to the census, in 2006 the population was 82,790 people [3] .
