Neman

Neman is a village in the Krasnoznamensky urban district of the Kaliningrad region . Until 2015, it was part of the Alekseevsky rural settlement . In the past, it consisted of three separate settlements: 1) Trappenen (from 1938 to 1945 Trappen); 2) Mezen (from 1938 to 1945 Kleinhartigsberg); 3) Bötthershof.

Geography

The village is located in the north-east of the Kaliningrad region, on the left bank of the Neman River (along which the border between Russia and Lithuania ), between the rivers Neman and its left tributary Sheshupe .

History

The settlement belongs to the historical region of ancient Prussia by the name of Nadrovia .

In 1938, the authorities of Nazi Germany changed the name Trappenen to a more Germanized version of Trappen as part of the campaign to abolish toponyms of Lithuanian origin in East Prussia . In 1945-1946, the Soviet authorities returned to use a more lithuanized version of Trappenen .

In 1946, the village of Trappenen was renamed the village of Neman [3] .
