Biography

Khristofor Khristoforovich Knipper was born on October 5, 1788 in St. Petersburg , in the family of the head physician of the Equestrian Life Guards Regiment and the Holy Governing Synod , state adviser Christopher Pavlovich Knipper (1749-1818), who received in 1803 a noble dignity with a diploma and coat of arms [1] . Khristofor Khristoforovich was brought up in the Imperial Military Orphan's House (later the Pavlovsky Cadet Corps ), after which on February 2, 1806 he was released as second lieutenant into the 2nd Jaeger Regiment (then the Omsk 96th Infantry Regiment ); the cousin of the regiment at that time (07.05.1803 - 11.23.1809) was the cousin of Christopher Khristoforovich colonel (from 12.12.1807 major general) Pavel Karlovich Knipper the 2nd (1768-1809). And in the period from 01/29/1810 to 01/01/1814 the chief of the regiment was his other cousin - Colonel (from 15/15/1813 Major General) Fedor Evstafievich Knipper .

The young officer received his first baptism of fire in 1808 in the Finnish campaign . Already on February 25, Lieutenant Knipper for the work he suffered was declared the highest gratitude . In this war, he fought against the Swedish troops under the cities of Helsingfors (29.02) and Nikorleba (11.04) and the villages of Mutom (12.02), Gostello (5.03), Kirk Perho (27.06), Lanferth (17 and 25.08). On September 30, 1808, Khristofor Khristoforovich was promoted to warrant . For the difference in the battle on March 2, 3, 4 and 5, 1809, during the occupation of the Åland Islands, he received the “Highest Grace” .

On March 17, 1810, H.H. Knipper was transferred from the 2nd Jäger Regiment to the Grenadier Count Arakcheyev Regiment , and on November 6 of the same year he was promoted to headquarters captain .

In the Patriotic War of 1812, Khristofor Khristoforovich, together with the Grenadier Count Arakcheev, took part in the battle against the French troops within the Russian Empire: at the city of Smolensk (5.08), the village of Lubin (7.08), the villages of Borodino (26.08), Tarutin (6.10), Maly Yaroslavts (14.10). For the courage shown in the village of Borodin, an order issued in the army by the Commander-in-Chief Prince M. I. Kutuzov-Smolensky was awarded the Order of St. Vladimir of the 4th degree.

In the campaign of 1813, H.H. Knipper participated in battles in the Duchy of Warsaw , Prussia , Silesia . For the difference in the battle of April 20, 1813 at Lutzen (Saxony), by order of the army of September 27, 1813, he received "The highest favor . " May 17, 1813 during Konigswart in the attack of the enemy vanguard H.H. Knipper was wounded in the left leg with a gun bullet. For bravery in this battle, he was awarded with the list of the army the Commander-in-Chief of Infantry, Count Barclay de Tolly, with a gold sword with the inscription "For Bravery."

In 1814, H.H. Knipper participated in the completion of the campaign against the Napoleonic army and received a silver medal "In memory of the Patriotic War of 1812."

On December 31, 1815, H.H. Knipper was promoted to captain , and on November 18, 1816, to be majors . Khristofor Khristoforovich was in military service until January 17, 1818, when, due to an old wound in the war of 1812, he was dismissed from the army with the rank of lieutenant colonel .

After his dismissal from the army, Khristofor Khristoforovich continued to serve in the civilian departments with the rank of court adviser . In January 1820, H.K. Knipper was appointed the overseer of the Caucasian Mineral Waters . He held this position until February 1821. On October 12, 1823, Khristofor Khristoforovich was appointed treasurer of the Moscow Commissariat Commission . In 1824, he received the rank of college adviser , and in 1832 - the state adviser . He remained in the position of treasurer of the Moscow Commissariat Commission until June 6, 1844. For health reasons, he was forced to resign from the position of treasurer, and worked until his death on June 23, 1850 as an official at the same commissariat commission. During his work, he was awarded the Orders of St. Anne of the 2nd degree and St. Stanislav of the 2nd degree, as well as insignia for perfect service for 25 and 30 years.

A short biography of H. H. Knipper was compiled by his great-grandson Vsevolod Nikolayevich Arnold in 1971 from preserved formulary lists and the Knippers' Home Book. The breastplate trench badge for the golden sword “For Courage” is kept in the family of descendants of Christopher Khristoforovich.
