Early Years, Education, and Priesthood

Guido Pozzo was born on December 26, 1951 near Trieste , in Italy . Pozzo entered the Almo Collegio Capranica (College of Kapranica) in 1970 . Guido then went to Rome to study at the Pontifical Gregorian University , where he received a bachelor 's degree in philosophy , a license in dogmatic theology, and a doctor of theology [1] .

September 24, 1977 he was ordained a priest of the diocese of Trieste .

At work in the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith

In 1987, he became an employee of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith and thus became well known to the then prefect of the Congregation , Joseph Ratzinger, who later became Pope Benedict XVI .

Pozzo was appointed Pope John Paul II Honorary Prelate of His Holiness November 21, 2004 .

An outstanding theologian, Pozzo is also a professor at the Pontifical Lateran University and was an associate secretary of the International Theological Commission in 2003 - 2009 .

Pope Benedict XVI appointed Pozzo Secretary of the Pontifical Commission of Ecclesia Dei on July 8, 2009 , on the day of the publication of the motu proprio Ecclesiae unitatem , in which the Pope closely connected the commission with the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, as a result of which the Prefect of the Congregation also became chairman of the Commission [2] .

Negotiations with the Priestly Brotherhood of St. Pius X

Monsignor Pozzo led the negotiations that, starting on October 26, 2009 , the theologians of the Holy See held with representatives of the Priesthood of Saint Pius X in the hope of resolving doctrinal differences between them [3] [4] .

The Great Elemosinary

On November 3, 2012, Monsignor Guido Pozzo was appointed distributor of His Holiness's alms and at the same time titular Archbishop of Bagnoregio [1] . Pozzo was ordained bishop on November 17, 2012 , the ordination was led by Cardinal Tarchisio Bertone , who was assisted by co-conspirators Archbishop Gerhard Ludwig Müller - Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith and Giampaolo Crepaldi - Bishop-Archbishop of Trieste [5] .

On August 3, 2013, Pope Francis was again appointed Secretary of the Pontifical Commission of Ecclesia Dei [6] .
