Cayenne [1] ( pers. قائن ) is a city in the eastern part of Iran , in the southern Khorasan ostan . The administrative center of Shahrestan Cayenne.

Located north of the city of Birgend . It is an important trading city; an important place in the economy is also occupied by the production of felt and carpets, and in addition - the cultivation of saffron . On May 10, 1997, a strong earthquake occurred in the area of the city, causing the death of more than 2,000 people.
