Orchestra 22nd Royal Regiment

It was established in October 1914 by French-speaking Canadian volunteers called the 22nd Infantry Battalion (Franco-Canadians) ( FR. 22e Bataillon d'infanterie (canadien français) ) to participate in the First World War . After the end of hostilities, it was disbanded, but in 1920 it was again assembled, receiving the name of the 22nd Regiment ( fr. 22e Régiment ). In 1921, thanks to George V , the prefix "royal" appeared in the title, which the British monarch appropriated, noting the excellent service of the regiment.

To this day, soldiers of the regiment put on the red uniform of British fusiliers and fur helmets . Among the English-speaking inhabitants of Canada, the most common nickname for the soldiers of the 22nd Royal is “The Vandoos” ( French vingt-deux with an English accent). Francophones most often call this formation simply “22” ( French vinght-deux ). This unit is the only regular fully French-speaking regiment in Canada. The formation consists of five battalions, of which two are in the main reserve of the Canadian armed forces . In regular forces, the 22nd Regiment is represented by two mechanized battalions and one light infantry, including a company of paratroopers . The main base is located in the Quebec fortress , but the 1st and 3rd battalions are located at the Valcartier military base , and the 4th and 6th reserve are in Laval and Saint-Iacent, respectively. The military unit numbers 2,000 regular foot soldiers and 200 reserve ones. The 22nd Royal Regiment is the most important military formation in Quebec and the largest French-speaking in America . The infantrymen of the 22nd Regiment took part in almost all conflicts and operations involving Canada since the formation of the unit.
