Bargusia or Bergistany ( lat. Bargusii ) - a small people of allegedly Iberian origin, akin to the Ilerges , who lived in the Sayarra River Valley, on the territory of modern Catalonia.
Bargus lived in the upper reaches of the Llobregat River. They were conquered by Hannibal Barca during a trip to Italy . Later they rebelled against the Romans, but their uprising was crushed by the consul Cato the Elder . [1] After the second rebellion they were enslaved. Their main fortress, known under the Latin name Castrum Bergium , probably corresponded to the modern settlement of Berga , although the similarly named settlement Berche in Lower Aragon is also known.
