History
The single has been certified by the Recording Industry Association of America in gold for sales of more than 1 million copies [3] . By September 1974, he also reached the golden status in the UK ( BPI ) [4] . The single was the second for the group to reach No. 1 in the USA ( Billboard Hot 100 ) [1] . On June 1, 2008, McCartney, along with Dave Grohl , the lead singer of Foo Fighters , performed this song at a concert in Liverpool [5] . Grohl played the guitar and performed backing vocals on “Band on the Run”, and then played drums in Beatles songs such as “ Back in the USSR ” and “ I Saw Her Standing There ”. Later, Grohl also performed Band on the Run with Paul's band at the 2010 White House ceremony at the McCartney Gershwin Prize for contributing to popular song . American singer Tori Amos performed a fragment of this song on her Plugged '98 Tour concert tour [6] .
