... There, Theodosius of Totemsky, among the shale sources, opens a new inexhaustible storehouse of spiritual salt, and he himself makes the salt of the Totemsky land, saving the soul and heart from rotting ... [1]

Biography

He was born in Vologda , probably in the first years of the reign of Vasily Ioannovich , who reigned in 1505-1533. [2] Upon reaching adulthood, by the will of his parents, he married, from whom he had a daughter, Marina. After the death of the parents and his wife, leaving his fortune to relatives for raising his daughter, Theodosius went to the Vologda Spaso-Preobrazhensky monastery of the Monk Dimitri Prilutsky , and was tonsured a monk.

In 1554, the Monk Theodosius received the imperial criminal certificate and proceeded to the construction of the Totem Monastery , where within a year he set up a wooden church and cells for the brethren.

Ephraim Desert

In 1560, the Rostov archbishop Nikander gave a new obedience - the resumption of the desolate Spaso-Nikolaev Efremova desert, located in the Totemsky district on the rivers Rezhe and Vahe .

The charmed tsar’s letter issued to the elder Ephraim at the beginning of the 16th century passed into the inheritance of pr. Theodosius, who restored the deserts at his own expense. There stood the churches of the Transfiguration and St. Nicholas the Wonderworker.

In the documents of the 17th century, the Ephraim Desert was already listed as belonging to another monastery - Nikolo-Ugreshsky .

In 1764, it was abolished. The churches of the village of Monastyrsky are turned into parish (now the Syamzhensky district of the Vologda region ).

In the 18th century, a new church was built in their place.

The Feats of Rev. Theodosius

In search of spiritual enlightenment, he gathered a large library of spiritual books, acquiring not only liturgical books, but also the theological works of Saint John Chrysostom , the Rev. Ephraim the Syrian and other teachers of the Church, which were expensive at that time.

The monk led the most rigorous ascetic life, was constantly in prayer and writings. Carefully concealed his exploits. Only his demise revealed the secret. The ascetic under the clothes wore iron chains and a stiff hair shirt that tormented his body. And on his head under a schematic puppet he put on an iron cap.

The Monk Seraphim of Sarov “believed that the faiths of such ascetics, such as Theodosius of Pechersky , Theodosius of Totemsky, Basil the Blessed and others, were the final quality moment of their feat, its crown, so to speak, which must be preceded by the feats of humility, the transfer of insults and fasting. " [3]

Having lived in the Totem monastery for 15 years and anticipating his demise, pr. Theodosius convened the brethren and ordered him to write a spiritual testament: how to manage the monastery after his death.

This historical document included the order of the saint about his remembrance:

“I am writing a spiritual letter with my belly in my whole mind and mind, to whom or what to take, or from whom to take something. Dati mi on Pryluk to the Savior is ten rubles, but on Totma in the city of dat mi on the throne, for all forty-odd fifty rubles ...

... In the cenodic my family is recorded and you would remember, but would not write out my family and me; but you will write out my family and me, otherwise the All-Merciful Savior is above you; but for the sake of nature, God’s sake, they did it without betrayal, as it is written in memory, they ruled all reprisals from memory, they naturally didn’t have a soul for themselves, but they wouldn’t load my souls naturally, but for the sake of a sin they would naturally forgive and forgive me God will forgive his holy prayers and you. ” [four]

He died on January 28, 1568 .

On September 2 ( 13 ), 1796 , during the reorganization of the temple, the imperishable relics of the saint were found.

Miracles

About 150 posthumous miracles of the reverend are known.

"All the miracles of St. Theodosius in the monastery book are recorded 146, and they have long ceased to record them." [four]

This is the main temple in the monastery and the largest of the three underground. [9] During the Great Patriotic War, during the Nazi occupation of Chernigov by German fascists, it was allowed to open the Trinity Monastery, previously closed by the Soviet government.
