Biography

Born in a family engraver . Since 1820 he studied in Berlin, under the schedule of Ludwig Buchhorn. In 1827, he decided to completely devote himself to painting, for which he entered the Berlin Academy of Arts , and in 1829 moved to the Dusseldorf Academy of Arts . He studied under Friedrich Wilhelm von Schadov .

Since 1847, Adolf Schroedter began to collaborate with the satirical publication Düsseldorfer Monatshefte , in which he placed his drawings and illustrations. In 1848 he moved to live in Frankfurt . In 1854 - returned back to Dusseldorf .

In 1854, after the founding of an art school by Frederick I of Baden , he was invited by the director I.V.Schirmer to the position of professor of painting and drawing.

From 1859 to 1872 - professor of ornament at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology .

Creativity

It is considered a subtle observer of people and morals, [1] witty satirist, an excellent draftsman and inventive composer [1] .

Adolf Schroedter became known mainly for his humorous genre paintings and prints, but at the same time he was also respected for his watercolors , lithographs , drawings for polytypes, beautiful ornaments and arabesques , images of flowers, etc.

Many of his works have gained immense popularity. Adolf Schroedter is considered one of the pioneers of the German comic book .

Together with Detmold, he published a caricature book on parliamentary philistinism (Piempeier, 1848), compositions in the form of friezes “Consecration of a village church on the Rhine” (written on a zinc board), watercolors “The Triumphal Procession of the Tsar-Wine” (1852), “Rhine” , Maitrank, Punch and Champagne (1852), Four Seasons (1854; at the Karlsruhe Museum) and some others.
