Biography
Yan Anatolyevich was born in 1965 in Leningrad in a family not related to art. The choice of profession was influenced by the artist’s grandfather V. Talentov, a well-known pathologist in Leningrad, an amateur photographer. He received his primary art education at Children's Art School No. 10 (now the school bears the name of B. M. Kustodiev ). In 1980-1984 he studied at the LHU im. Serova at the restoration department. In 1981, together with D. Egorovsky and V. Filippov he formed the art group “The Old City” , and in 1985 joined the Union of Artists of the USSR . The art critic N.I. Blagodatov writes:
The “Old City” group was formed in 1981, back in the Soviet era, when ideology tried to direct young people to a brighter future. And now a group of still very young artists rushed in the opposite direction - into the past. This was the year when the most diverse forces in the free art of Leningrad found the opportunity to unite for joint exhibitions of unofficial art in the “Partnership of Experimental Fine Art” . However, the “Old City” group existed as if in parallel, although in opposition to socialist realism it was close to TEII .
- N. I. Blagodatov, “The Old City” in the old city, 06/08/2008 [1]
The works of Yan Anatolyevich are in the collections of the Ministry of Culture of Russia, Narva Castle (Estonia), the contemporary art collection of the Manege Exhibition Hall (St. Petersburg) [2] , are exhibited in New Pinakothek in Munich (Germany), as well as in private collections in Russia, Sweden, Germany, Scotland, France, South Korea, USA, Italy, Norway, Canada, etc.

Style Features
At any group exhibition, Antonyshev’s works are recognizable and stand out from the general range of landscape painters, with their twilight flavor and bizarre symbiosis of plants, living creatures and houses. This is almost always the “off season” so characteristic of St. Petersburg. Separately, it must be said about the pastel technique invented by the master and became his "calling card." Sheets of rough cardboard processed in a special way allow to achieve a special texture of the image, and the use of a scalpel (tools of the restorer, which suddenly became a tool for creation), allows him to work out small details. Like many artists, his impressions of his childhood spent in Leningrad in the 1970s hold him tightly in his power. Antonyshev combines his studies at an art school at the restoration faculty with active work in the circles of unofficial artists. The artist notes the special influence of Andrei Tarkovsky ’s films on his work, especially the films “Solaris” and “Stalker”, so in almost every work we see fetish objects from these film works. His work is a vivid example of the fact that the creative person is more shaped by the environment, not the school.
Ian always has a sense of fantastic vision in his works, there is an element of the story that you want to read, but it is not always finished and you need to finish it, and his stories do not always seem to end with a happy ending. The deformation of the visible world is sharp, nervous, and seems unpredictable and ambiguous.
