Biography
Santiago began his career in his hometown, first stepping on the field in his Albacete T-shirt at age 18. In 1995 he moved to Atletico Madrid , with whom he became the champion of Spain and the winner of the Spanish Cup in the 1995/96 season. While playing at Albacete, he was called up to the Spanish youth team , for which he spent 27 matches. This indicator has not yet been surpassed by anyone. However, for the main team of the country, Santi spent only two games. In 2005, he returned to Albacete, where he completed his career as a football player.
In 2009, he entered the coaching staff of Atletico Madrid under the leadership of Abel Resino , and after the resignation of the latter, he acted as head coach until the arrival of Kike Sanchez Flores .
Since 2010, he has been working as a coach of the youth national teams of Spain.
