Biography
He graduated from the Sorbonne ( 1967 ). In 1970 he defended his doctoral dissertation on Platonism . He was part of the left radical group Socialism or barbarism . He taught in Nice , Montpellier , Montreal , Paris .
He attracted attention in 1979 with the work The Same and Others (Le Même et l'Autre), which gives a panorama of French philosophy from Kojève to Foucault, from a critical point of view (especially in relation to French phenomenology ).
In 1983 - 1992 he lived in the United States, where he taught French literature and philosophy ( Baltimore , Atlanta , Chicago ).
He is currently the head of research at the Higher School of Social Sciences ( Raymond Aron Center for Political Studies). Heads the Cornelius Kastoriadis Association.
In the 1990s, he worked on the philosophy of psychology, as well as in the field of practical and social philosophy.

The philosophy of action, the philosophy of language.
Known for his extensive criticism of cognitivism - understood by him as a point of view according to which thoughts, experiences and other psychological and psychological facts can ultimately be understood as physical processes occurring in the human brain .
Recognition
Grand Prize in Philosophy ( French Academy , 2005 ). Decombe's works have been translated into English, German, Spanish, Swedish, Greek, Slovenian, Chinese.
