Biography
Nikolai Gromykhalin was born on May 22, 1918 in the village of Drankovo, Egorevsk District, Ryazan Province [1], into a peasant family. He graduated from seven classes of school, worked as a fitter at the Egoryevsk shoe factory. In November 1941, Gromikhalin was called up to serve in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army and sent to the front of the Great Patriotic War. Took part in battles on the Central and 2nd Byelorussian fronts. He participated in the battle for Moscow . By April 1945, senior sergeant Nikolai Gromikhalin commanded the detachment of the 238th separate engineering and sapper battalion of the 48th engineering and sapper brigade of the 70th army of the 2nd Belorussian front. Distinguished during the forcing of the Oder [2] .
On April 20, 1945, Gromykhalin was the first in his subdivision, despite the massive enemy fire, sent troops of 11 people to the west bank through the Oder. During the landing, he was wounded, but, nevertheless, again went to the flight, delivering the second group of paratroopers. During the second flight, he was mortally wounded. He was buried in the cemetery of the Polish city of Gryfino [2] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of June 29, 1945, Senior Sergeant Nikolai Gromykhalin was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union for “exemplary performance of the tasks of the command on the front of the struggle against the German invaders and for showing courage and heroism”. He was also awarded the Order of Lenin , the Red Star , Glory of the 3rd degree, medals "For Courage" and "For the Defense of Moscow" [2] .
