Geography
The village is located 44 km from Tulun and 90 km from Nizhneudinsk .
Toponymy
The name Irgei is derived from the Buryat Erye - shore . In the past, Buryats lived here [2] .
According to Stanislav Gurulyov , this toponym is derived from the Buryat Irgai - kilogram [3] .
History
The settlement was founded in 1900 by immigrants from the Gomel district of the Mogilev province (now the Gomel region , Belarus ). First, Vavila Semenovich Baranovsky arrived in the vicinity of the settlement, and later settled nearby. After learning about the free distribution of land , he returned to his homeland, and later came back with the first inhabitants. They were Ivan Barkovsky with three sons (Efim, Simon and Yakov), Trofim Stepanovich Borovik, Thomas Makarov and Timofey Smolovsky. Several families settled nearby, near the lake located next to Irgei.
The road to the Moscow highway was built by the resettlement department of the Irkutsk province in 1914 [4] .
In the mid-1920s, the artel was organized by Vavila Baranovsky from the villagers, by 1928 all the Irgheans entered. This artel was engaged in agriculture, in particular, dairy farming. Later, the First May collective farm was organized in Irgheya.
On May 5, 1940, the settlement burned down almost completely, only 3 houses survived. Many residents left the village, the rest built new houses, and the village was restored.
Many villagers took part in the Great Patriotic War [2] .

According to the 2010 All-Russian Population Census, the NP population was 282 people [5]

Administratively, the village belongs to the Irgei municipal union of the Nizhneudinsky district of the Irkutsk region.
