Biography

Kirill Grishko was born in 1909 in the village of Vodyanoe (now Titovo, Bilmak District, Zaporizhzhya Region ) into a peasant family. He lived in Tashkent . In 1929] at Grishko he was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. In 1932, he graduated from the Kachinsky Military Aviation School of Pilots, in 1943 - advanced training courses for officers. Since June 1943 - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. Participated in the Battle of Kursk . On July 27, 1943, during a combat mission, he was shot down, seriously injured and captured, but soon managed to escape and get to the Soviet troops. Subsequently, Grishko participated in battles on the 1st and 2nd Ukrainian fronts. He took part in the Lviv-Sandomierz , Lower Silesian , Upper Silesian , Berlin and Prague operations [1] .

By May 1945, Major Kirill Grishko commanded the squadron of the 143rd Guards Assault Air Regiment of the 8th Guards Assault Air Division of the 1st Guards Assault Air Corps of the 2nd Air Army of the 1st Ukrainian Front. By that time, he had made 83 sorties to attack clusters of enemy military equipment and manpower, destroying 17 tanks, 106 armored personnel carriers and vehicles, 10 artillery batteries, 20 railway wagons, 4 aircraft, created 15 large fire centers, disabled more than 260 enemy soldiers and officers [1] .

June 17, 1945 Grishko died in a car accident in the village of Petershain . He was buried at the Soviet military cemetery in the Polish city of Boleslawiec [1] .

Rewards

By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of June 27, 1945, for the “exemplary fulfillment of command assignments and the courage and heroism shown” of the guard, Major Kirill Grishko was posthumously awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union . He was also awarded the Order of Lenin , two orders of the Red Banner , orders of Alexander Nevsky , World War 1 degree, Red Star , as well as a number of medals [1] .
