It is located 5 km west of the district center, the village of Bezhanitsy , and 4 km northwest of the volost center, the village of Makhnovo .
Name of Baltic origin, cf. lit. degužė the cuckoo [2] .

Until June 3, 2010, the village was part of the now abolished Makhnovsky volost .
