Patan ( English Patan , Gudzh . પાટણ ) - a city and municipality in the Indian state of Gujarat . The administrative center of the district of Patan . Founded in 745 by a ruler named Vanraj Chavda . In the Middle Ages was the capital of Gujarat. The population of the city according to the data in 2001 was 112,038 people [1] . The main languages are Gujarati and Hindi . The literacy rate in 2001 was 72%. There are many Hindu and Jain temples in the city.
