Jan Eugen Kochisch ( Slovakian Ján Eugen Kočiš , June 25, 1926 , Pozdisovce , Czechoslovakia ) has been a Greek Catholic bishop , a titular bishop of Abritt and a bishop of the Apostolic Exarchate of the Czech Republic since April 24, 2004 .

Biography
Jan Eugen Kocsis was born on June 25, 1926 in Pozdishovce , Czechoslovakia. In 1950 he was drafted into the armed forces of Czechoslovakia. Being a soldier, he received ordination as a priest on January 1, 1951, in underground conditions. After military service, he worked as a baker and at the same time performed underground services for believers of the Byzantine rite in Slovakia.
In 1958, for his illegal priestly activity, Jan Eugen Kocsis was arrested and spent four years in prison. After his release, Jan Eugen Kocsis was forbidden to live in Slovakia and he settled in the city of Pardubice , where he worked as a simple worker. In 1968 he returned to Slovakia , where he became involved in underground pastoral activities.
In 1993, Jan Eugen Kocsis was appointed Secretary of the Greek Catholic Vicariate in the Czech Republic. From 1996 to 2003, he was Vicar General of the Apostolic Exarchate in the Czech Republic. On January 22, 2002, Jan Eugen Kocsis was appointed papal prelate.
On April 24, 2004, Pope John Paul II appointed Jan Eugene Kocsis as a titular Bishop of Abritta and a Vicar Bishop of the Apostolic Exarchate of the Czech Republic . On May 15, 2004, Jan Eugen Kocsis was ordained as a bishop.
He retired on October 7, 2006 .
