Biography

At the end of 1547, Nikita Sheremetev participated in the campaign of Tsar Ivan the Terrible against the Kazan Khanate . The tsar himself, due to spring thaw, returned in February 1548 from Rostov to Moscow , and the Russian army, under the command of Prince Dmitry Fedorovich Belsky, moved to Kazan . Prince Semen Ivanovich Mikulinsky defeated the Kazan army of Khan Safa-Girey in a battle on the Arskoye field. With the news of this victory on March 11, 1548, Ivan Mikhailovich Yuryev and Nikita Vasilyevich Sheremetev were sent to the Tsar.

In 1552, Nikita Sheremetev participated in the new campaign of Tsar Ivan the Terrible against the Kazan Khanate . N. Sheremetev was an elected head over a hundred children of boyars in the tsar’s regiment. On August 26, by royal decree, Nikita Sheremetev, along with other elected heads, was sent to help the second governor of the large regiment, Prince Mikhail Ivanovich Vorotynsky , against whom the Kazan citizens made a sortie. Then Nikita Sheremetev participated in the defeat of the Kazan prince Yepanchi, who, with his detachment, took refuge in a fortress on a mountain on the Arskoye field.

On October 11, 1552, after the Russian army delivered from Kazan, Nikita Sheremetev led the forward regiment by dry route through Vasilsursk .

In June 1555, Tsar Ivan the Terrible led the rati from Moscow to Tula to help Ivan Vasilyevich Bolshoi Sheremetev against the Crimean Khan Devlet Geray . During this campaign, Nikita Sheremetev was appointed as the elected head for newsletters. After the retirement of the Crimean khan in the steppe, Tsar Ivan Vasilievich returned to Moscow , and N.V. Sheremetev was sent as governor to the suburban fortress Ivangorod , built in 1492 on the banks of the Narova River , opposite the Livonian fortress of Narva . Nikita Sheremetev did not stay in Ivangorod for long, by December 6, Mikhail Vasilievich Godunov was to replace him.

In 1555, Nikita Sheremetev took part in the war with Sweden . N.V. Sheremetev was appointed comrade (deputy) to the governor of the advanced regiment and his brother Semyon Sheremetev . In the battle of Vyborg in January 1556, Nikita Sheremetev was wounded. In the same 1556, he was granted a roundabout and was at the court of Tsar Ivan Vasilyevich , when in June of that year he went on a campaign “according to the Crimean news” to Serpukhov . From there, Nikita Vasilyevich Sheremetev was sent from Serpukhov to the Shivorona River, but was soon recalled from there, as it became known that the Crimean Khan had changed his mind about raiding the South Russian lands.

In the spring of 1557, Nikita Sheremetev was granted a boyar. In 1558, he was sent as the second governor to Kazan , becoming deputy first governor of Prince Alexander Ivanovich Vorotynsky . In 1559 - 1560, during campaigns in Livonia, Nikita Sheremetev was first the second governor of the regiment of the right hand, and then the first governor of the regiment of the left hand. At the end of 1562 - the beginning of 1563 he participated in the royal campaign against Polotsk , during which he was among the eleven boyars who made up the military council under the tsar. In February 1563, after the capture of Polotsk, Tsar Ivan the Terrible led the Russian army to Moscow. During the campaign from Polotsk to Velikiye Luki, the boyar Nikita Sheremetev was the third governor of the guard regiment . Of the Great Onions, N.V. Sheremetev was sent together with the boyar M. Ya. Morozov to the Voivodeship in Smolensk .

Execution

In 1564, the boyar Nikita Vasilyevich Sheremetev was executed by order of Tsar Ivan the Terrible . Prince Andrei Mikhailovich Kurbsky reported that the tsar ordered him to be strangled on the very day he visited his older brother, Ivan Vasilyevich Bolshoi Sheremetev , who fell into disgrace in 1562, in prison. The Swedish writer Pyotr Petray , who lived in Russia at the beginning of the 17th century, wrote that Tsar Ivan Vasilyevich ordered in his presence to chop Nikita Sheremetev into pieces, and ordered his legs and arms to be wrapped in fine cloth and sent as a gift to his wife.

The name of Nikita Vasilyevich Sheremetev was recorded in two synods “for disgraced people” sent by Tsar Ivan the Terrible to Nikitsky Pereyaslavsky Monastery and Nizhny Novgorod Pechersky Monastery.

Nikita Sheremetev was buried in the Kirillo-Belozersky monastery , "at the big church behind the altar", and a contribution of two hundred rubles was made to mention his soul.

Family

Nikita Vasilyevich Sheremetev was married to Evdokia, whose origin is not known. Children:

  • Pyotr Nikitich Sheremetev (c. 1564 - 1610 ) - a steward , governor and nobleman , was married to Martha Vasilyevna Nagoy, had three sons.
