Biography

Nicholas Samra was born on August 15, 1944 in Paterson , New Jersey, USA. After receiving a theological education, Nicholas Samra was ordained a priest on May 10, 1970 , after which he served in various Melkite parishes in Los Angeles, Chicago, and New Jersey.

On April 22, 1989, Pope John Paul II appointed Nicholas Samra as titular bishop of Gerasa and auxiliary bishop of the diocese of the Blessed Virgin Mary of the Annunciation in Newton. On July 6, 1989, Nicholas Samra was ordained bishop by the Melkite Archbishop Joseph Elias Tawil.

In early June 2011, the Synod of the Melkit Catholic Church elected Nicholas Samra to the department of the diocese of the Blessed Virgin Mary of the Annunciation in Newton. On June 15, 2011, Pope John Paul II approved the decision of the Synod of the Melkitic Catholic Church.
