Title
The German name of the village Gross Heidekrug probably comes from the words heide - “wasteland” and krug - “tavern”, that is, it means “tavern on wastelands”. Gradually, the original meaning was lost, the word Gross was added to the name - “big”, referring to the village.
In 1946, it was renamed Vzmorje.
History
In 1744, a school was built in Heidekrug, where services were also held. In 1927, the construction of the Lutheran church began, which was consecrated in November 1931 . During the fighting in 1945, the church was seriously damaged and in 1948 was demolished.
