Biography

He studied playing the harp with his father, then studied composition at the Vienna Conservatory (including under the supervision of Anton Bruckner ), in 1884 - 1919 . taught himself in it. As a composer, he is known primarily for operettas and comic operas, the first of which, “Queen of Aragon” ( German Die Königin von Aragón ), appeared in 1883, followed by the most popular “Double” ( German Der Doppelgänger ; 1886 libretto by Victor Leon ), on which Viennese critics noticed that Zamara’s music has too much Wagnerian influence [3] . The opera Toledo Jeweler ( German: Der Goldschmied von Toledo ; 1919 , a libretto based on the novel by E. T. Hoffmann , Mademoiselle de Scodery), was arranged from Jacques Offenbach ’s re-composed music (partly in the works of Julius Stern ).

Zamara's stage works were occasionally staged and published in Russia. In the operetta The Singer from Palermo ( German: Der Sänger von Palermo ; 1888 ), in 1890 , he first appeared on the stage as a young choir Fyodor Chaliapin .
