History
The ancient city of Abbir the Great was located in the Roman province of Africa and until the 7th century was the center of the eparchy of the same name, which was part of the metropolis of Carthage . In the 7th century, the diocese of Abbir the Great ceased to exist.
Since 1915, the diocese of Abbir the Great is the titular diocese of the Roman Catholic Church.
