Magellan Telescopes - two optical telescopes with a diameter of 6.5 meters each, located at the Las Campanas Observatory in Chile . One of the telescopes is named after the astronomer Walter Baade , the other - the philanthropist Landon Clay.

The Baade telescope saw the first light on September 15, 2000, the Clay telescope on September 7, 2002.
The Carnegie Institute , Arizona University , Harvard University , the University of Michigan, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology jointly organize and manage telescopes.
The complex was named after the Portuguese explorer Fernand Magellan .
