Biography
Born on March 6, 1925 in the village of Bazilevschina, now Mashevsky district, Poltava region ( Ukraine ). In 1938 he graduated from 7 classes of the school. He worked on a collective farm.
Since September 1941 he was in the occupied territory. After the liberation of the Poltava region in September 1943 he joined the army.
Member of the Great Patriotic War : from September 1943 - shooter of the 44th Guards Rifle Regiment. He fought on the Stepnoy and 2nd Ukrainian fronts. He participated in the liberation of the Left-Bank Ukraine, the battle for the Dnieper and the offensive in the Krivoy Rog direction. In the battles of September 27 and October 14, 1943 he was twice wounded. In the offensive battle on November 23, 1943, in the area of the village of Novoivanovka ( Kryvyi Rih District, Dnipropetrovsk Region , Ukraine ), he stubbornly and persistently advanced forward, personally destroying one officer and two enemy soldiers. For this fight F. S. Sherstyuk was awarded the medal “For Courage” .
At the end of 1943 he graduated from sniper courses. His mentor in sniper business was the future Hero of the Soviet Union P. A. Goncharov . Since that time, F. S. Sherstyuk became a sniper of the 44th Guards Rifle Regiment. He fought on the 3rd Ukrainian front . Participated in the Nikopol-Krivorozhsky , Bereznegovato-Snigirevskaya and Odessa operations. With the liquidation of the Kryvyi Rih enemy group in February 1944 and with the expansion of the bridgehead on the right bank of the Dniester near the city of Tiraspol ( Moldova ), on April 25, 1944, 20 enemy soldiers and officers were killed by a sniper rifle.
By order of the 15th Guards Rifle Division No. 074 / n of July 9, 1944, the Red Army soldier Fyodor Semenovich Sherstyuk was awarded the Order of Glory of the 3rd degree .
Since July 1944, he fought on the 1st Ukrainian Front . Participated in the Lviv-Sandomierz operation and battles at the Sandomierz bridgehead . On August 18-21, 1944, during the battles at the villages of Kempe ( gmina Olesnica , Staszow County , Sventoksha Voivodeship , Poland ) and Klempie Dolne ( gmina Stopnica , Buski County , Sventoksha Voivodeship , Poland ), 13 Hitlerites were killed with a sniper rifle (2 of them officers), eliminated 2 machine-gun calculations. In September 1944, when the regiment went on the defensive, it destroyed up to 35 Nazis during the “free hunt” on the left bank of the Vistula . On November 13-17, 1944, in the battles on the Sandomierz bridgehead near the village of Dziesławice (16 km southwest of the city of Staszow , ентwiętokrzyskie Voivodeship , Poland ), 34 Nazis were killed.
By order of the 5th Guards Army No. 069 / n dated November 30, 1944, the Guard Sergeant Sherstyuk Fedor Semenovich was awarded the Order of Glory of the 2nd degree .
Then he participated in the Sandomierz-Silesian and Lower Silesian operations. From January 12 to February 12, 1945, in the battles on the outskirts of the city of Breslau (now the city of Wroclaw , Poland ), 103 Hitlerites were killed (including 3 officers and 9 machine gun crews). On February 10, 1945, in the battle for the village of Pottwitz, despite strong enemy artillery fire, he chose a firing position in the attic of the house and in one day destroyed 2 officers and 12 enemy soldiers. On February 23, 1945, in the area of the besieged Breslau he advanced directly into the enemy’s position and, disguised himself, fired sniper fire for two days, destroying 26 German soldiers and officers. For these feats he was presented to the Order of Glory of the 1st degree .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of June 27, 1945, the guard Sergeant Sherstyuk Fedor Semenovich was awarded the Order of Glory of the 1st degree .
Then he participated in the Upper Silesian , Berlin and Prague operations. March 15, 1945 in street battles west of the city of Grottkau (now the city of Grodkow , Brzeg County , Opole Voivodeship , Poland ), with a group of fighters broke into the house in which the German machine gunners and Faust patrons settled. With the help of grenades, he destroyed 12 Nazis, and 6 captured. On April 16, 1945, in a battle for the city of Bad Muskau ( Saxony , Germany ), he climbed onto the third floor of a house and, disguised himself, fired sniper fire from his rifle for four hours, exterminating 22 Nazis and ensuring the advancement of the battalion. On May 6, 1945, in an offensive west of the city of Grossenhain ( Saxony , Germany ), when the battalion fought heavy street battles in the village of Wesnitz, with two fighters, he crept up to the house where the Germans settled. Closing all the exits from the house, set fire to it, as a result of which the entire garrison of the house burned down. After the battle, 28 charred corpses of German soldiers and officers were found in the house.
In total, during the war, he destroyed 225 enemy soldiers and officers from his sniper rifle. In May 1945 he was introduced to the title of Hero of the Soviet Union , but received the Order of the Red Banner . Participant of the Victory Parade on June 24, 1945 in Moscow.
After the war, he continued to serve in the army (in the Carpathian military district ). In 1950, the guard foreman F.S. Sherstyuk was demobilized.
He served in the Lviv city department of internal affairs. Repeatedly participated in the detention of dangerous criminals. In 1956 he graduated from the six-month courses of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the USSR . Dismissed to the reserve with the rank of police major .
He lived in the city of Lviv ( Ukraine ). He died on June 22, 1992.
