Biography
Alexander Gridinsky was born on September 14, 1921 in the city of Shatsk [1] in the family of an employee. He often moved with his father, lived at different railway stations. He graduated from incomplete secondary school and the Alma-Ata flying club. In 1940, Gridinsky was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. He graduated from the Orenburg Military Aviation Pilot School [2] .
Since June 1942 - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. Participated in battles on the Kalinin and Steppe fronts. He took part in the Battle of Kursk . On June 27, 1943, Gridinsky’s plane was shot down southwest of Belgorod , but the pilot managed to bring him to the airport. Later he participated in the battle for the Dnieper , the Korsun-Shevchenkovsky operation , and forcing the Dniester . On June 7, 1944, Gridinsky lifted his plane from an airfield near the Moldavian village of Small Pistrueni to fly around a new engine. Suddenly he was attacked by 4 German fighters. Gridinsky managed to bring down one of them, but after that he himself was shot down. He was buried in the village of Raspopeni in the Soldanesti district of Moldova . At the time of his death, with the rank of lieutenant guard, he was deputy squadron commander of the 144th Guards Assault Air Regiment , 9th Guards Assault Air Division , 1st Guards Assault Air Corps , 5th Air Army , 2nd Ukrainian Front . During his participation in the war, he made 156 sorties, destroyed 20 aircraft, 35 tanks, 3 anti-aircraft artillery batteries, 90 vehicles, 4 fuel tanks, crossing the Dnieper. Gridinsky’s fellow soldiers have long sought to confer upon him the title of Hero of the Soviet Union [2] .
Rewards
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of May 6, 1965, for “exemplary performance of the command missions at the front of the battle against the German invaders and the courage and heroism shown” of the guard, Lieutenant Alexander Gridinsky was posthumously awarded the high rank of Hero of the Soviet Union . He was also awarded the Order of Lenin , two orders of the Red Banner , orders of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree and the Red Star [2] .
Memory
A street in the cities of Gagarin and Shatsk was named in honor of Gridinsky [2] .
