Emblem Description

At the top of the arms of the Novgorod governorship ; in the lower part of the coat of arms: “there is a collection of whitefish fish in the lake, which in fact is very abundant in the lake on which the city is built.”

History of coat of arms

In 1777, Padansk became a city of the Novgorod province.

On August 16, 1781, Empress Catherine II, along with other emblems of the cities of the Novgorod governorship, approved the coat of arms of the Podonsk district (the county town Padansk) (PPSRI, 1781, Law No. 15209). [1] [2]

The true description of the coat of arms of the Podonsk district read:

“In the lakes there is a collection of fish, whitefish, which are in the very heart of the Podon lake, on which this city was built, is very abundant”.
In the upper half of the shield is the Novgorod coat of arms : “There are golden armchairs in a silver field with a red cushion on which a scepter is placed crosswise on the right side, and a candlestick with a left cross, on the top of the chairs a candlestick with three candles, and on the sides are two bears.”

In view of the remoteness of Padansk, no county institutions were formed in it. In 1782, the city was abolished and transferred to the category of Padanskaya Sloboda in the Povenets district of Olonets governorship .

"By inheritance" the coat of arms of the city of Padanska (Podonsk district) until 1788 used the county town of Povenets . On October 4, 1788, the town of Povenets received its own coat of arms and the coat of arms of Podansk was practically not used.

Later Padanskaya settlement was renamed the village Padany. Currently, the village is the administrative center of Padansky rural settlement .

Decisions on the restoration or restoration of the historical coat of arms of Padanska as an official symbol for the modern municipal union Padanskoe rural settlement was not taken.
