Biography
Johann Georg was the third son (the eldest of the survivors) of the Duke of Saxe-Weißenfels Johann Adolf I and his first wife Johann Magdalena of Saxe-Altenburg . Since in 1697, when his father passed away, he was still young, the regency over him until his majority took the elector of Saxony Friedrich Augustus I.
Johann Georg paid great attention to the economic and cultural development of the duchy. Under his administration, Weissenfels became the economic and cultural center of Central Germany, comparable to Dresden .
Due to the fact that at the time of his death in 1712 he had no male descendants, his younger brother Christian inherited the duchy.
