The Imperial Society of Agriculture of Southern Russia is the oldest agricultural society of the Russian Empire.

Society History
The society was organized on the initiative of Count M. S. Vorontsov in 1828 in Odessa [1] with the aim of fully promoting agricultural development in southern Russia.
One of its founders was Jacques Dessemé , as well as N. B. Gersevanov .
The society held contests, exhibitions, advertised new varieties of plants, animal breeds, brands of cars, awarded the best farmers, conducted experiments on its farm. In special editions of the Society (“Leaflets” [2] , “Notes” [3] ) practical instructions were given on the cultivation of a number of crops. The society consisted of 340 full members and 70 corresponding members (honorary members of the society).
For 25 years, the post of vice-president [4] , and then the president of the society, was held by Count Mikhail Dmitrievich Tolstoy .

Tardan [16], and others. Since 1902, honorary member he was L. S. Golitsyn , and from 1911 he became chairman of the Viticulture Society Committee.

He took an active part in the publication of the “Notes” of the society, the author of several works and translations: “Notes of a Beekeeper” (1846), “My Experiments on Artichokes” (1854), etc. He was on friendly terms with A.
