It is located in the northeast of the city. It borders in the south with the La Cité Lemoale area, in the west with the Beauport region, in the east with the Le Rivière and La Haute-Saint-Charles areas.

The motto of the district is “My dignity stems from my faith and work” ( lat. Fide Et Labore Valebo ).

Old Charlbur since 1965 is a historical monument of the province of Quebec. There are many architectural monuments of the XIX century.

History

The origins of Charlbur begins in 1626 with a colony founded by the Jesuits in honor of Our Lady of Angels . The territory belonging to them was located north of the Saint-Charles River , which means that its southern part is now part of the district of Limoalou, while the northern part is part of the district of Charlesburgh. In 1665, the new quartermaster Jean Talon founded three villages here. This act of his displeased the Jesuits, who were the masters of these lands. The first of these villages occupied an area of 25 hectares, in the center of it was left an area of five acres for the future church, the house of the priest and a cemetery. The settlers' houses were located along the perimeter and in such a way that all roads led to the main square. The second village was a semicircle due to the lack of territory. The third village, Burgh Royal, was founded in 1667 a little further to the northeast. All three villages marked the beginning of the town of Charlesbur, named after the chapel built at Burg-Royal, in honor of St. Charles (Charles) Borromeo.

Charlbur is, above all, agricultural land, in addition, in the first half of the XX century, it became a resort of local importance. The urbanization process, which began in the second half of the 1900s, turned it into one of the suburbs of Quebec. In 1976, the regional municipalities of East Charlbur, Notre-Dame-de-Lorentis, Orsenville and the town of Charlesbourg united to become the city of Charlesbourg.

On January 1, 2002, this city was abolished, and its territory, together with other regional municipalities, became part of Quebec and formed the district of Charlesburgh.

County

The territory of the district is divided into six districts, but only two of them have an official name, Notre-Dame-de-Lorentis and De Joesuit. This territory is divided into four constituencies.

The remaining four districts are marked as District 4-2 (formerly the town of Orsenville), District 4-3 (the former municipal regional district of East Charlbur, also called Burg-Royal), District 4-5 (historical district of Charlbur), District 4-6 ( former village of Saint-Rodrig) and will receive an official name after local councils are formed.

In the Quebec City Council, Charlbur is represented by an advisor in each of the four constituencies.
