Limansky district was formed on December 28, 1934 as part of the Azov-Black Sea Territory by separation from the Yeisk district . It consisted of 5 village councils: Glafirovsky, Yeyskoureplensky, Yekaterinovsky, Nikolaev, Shabelsky.
September 13, 1937 Limansky district became part of the Krasnodar Territory.
On August 22, 1953, the Liman region was abolished. Its entire territory was transferred to the Shcherbinovsky district .
