Biography
Gerasim Grigoriev was born on March 16, 1921 in the village of Antsiforovo (now the Kholm-Zhirkovsky District of the Smolensk Region [1] ) into a peasant family. He graduated from seven classes of the school, worked as an accountant on a collective farm . Since 1936 he lived in Moscow , received a specialty as a plasterer, worked on metropolitan construction sites. Since 1938 he lived in the city of Nikolaev , graduated from the flying club there. In 1939, Grigoriev was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . In 1940 he graduated from the Odessa Military Aviation Pilot School. Since June 1941 - on the fronts of World War II. The first enemy aircraft shot down on the third day of the war [2] .
By November 1942, Captain Gerasim Grigoryev was deputy squadron commander of the 178th fighter air regiment of the 6th fighter air corps of the Air Defense Forces. By that time, he had made 300 sorties, took part in 18 air battles, having shot down 11 enemy planes in person and 2 more as part of a group according to the award list (according to a study by M. Yu. Bykov, 8 personal and 5 group victories were confirmed from the bottom ) [3] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of February 14, 1943, for "exemplary performance of command missions at the front of the battle against the German invaders and shown courage and heroism" captain Gerasim Grigoryev was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Golden Star medal " Under the number 791 [2] .
During the war he made more than 450 sorties, in air battles he destroyed 12 enemy aircraft personally and another 5 in the group [4] . Since the spring of 1943, he practically did not participate in air battles. In 1955, Grigoriev graduated from the Air Force Academy. In 1963, with the rank of colonel, he was transferred to the reserve. He lived in Riga , died on April 23, 1966 [2] .
He was awarded two orders of Lenin, three orders of the Red Star , as well as a number of medals [2] .
