Biography

Andrey Grib was born on August 15, 1921 in the village of Shelpakhovka (now the Khristinovsky district of the Cherkasy region of Ukraine ) in a peasant family. He graduated from high school. In 1939, the Mushroom was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . In 1941, he graduated from the Kharkov Artillery School. Since June of that year - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. By July 1943, Captain Andrey Grib commanded the battery of the 124th Guards Artillery Regiment of the 52nd Guards Rifle Division of the 6th Guards Army of the Voronezh Front . He distinguished himself during the Battle of Kursk [1] .

On July 5, 1943, the Mushroom participated in repelling the attacks of German infantry and tank units in the Yakhontov farm area of ​​the Yakovlevsky District of the Belgorod Region . His battery destroyed 6 heavy and 4 medium tanks, 7 vehicles, about 300 enemy soldiers and officers. In hand-to-hand combat, he personally destroyed several soldiers, broke out of the encirclement and continued to control the battery [1] .

By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of September 21, 1943 for the "exemplary performance of the combat missions of the command and the courage and heroism shown by the guard", Captain Andrei Grib was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal number 3922 [ 1] .

After the war ended, Mushroom continued to serve in the Soviet Army. In 1952, he graduated from the Higher Academic Courses of the General Staff. In 1965, with the rank of colonel, he was transferred to the reserve. He lived in Kiev .

He died on July 19, 2000, was buried in the Berkovetsky cemetery of Kiev [1] .

He was also awarded the Order of the Red Banner , orders of the Patriotic War of the 1st and 2nd degrees, the Order of the Red Star , as well as a number of medals [1] .
