Biography
F. P. Nesterov was born in 1877 in the village. Mashcheno (now Denisovo) Tula province . Grew up in the poorest peasant family, lived in a chicken hut. Mother died when Fede was 6 years old, and he did not know his father. At the age of 11, after graduating from a three-year school, aunt Aksinya drives Fyodor to Moscow, where he gives him to study at the Pictorial and Icon Painting Workshop of P.P. Pashkov. murals. But the young icon painter did not intend to associate himself with church painting for the rest of his life. For two years Nesterov worked with a seminarian, preparing to enter a secondary art school. [1]
Since 1898, studying at the Penza Art School, where he studied at the art. KA Savitsky . Having graduated from the Penza school with excellent marks in drawing, painting and composition in 1902, Fedor Panfilovich was entitled to enroll in any higher artistic institution without entrance examinations.
From 1903 to 1913, he was a student at the Higher Art School at the Imperial Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg , where he was taught by P. P. Chistyakov and I. E. Repin . It can be argued that according to the mastery of drawing Fedor Panfilovich stood out among the students of the Academy, and it was not by chance that Chistyakov presented him with a photographic card as a souvenir.
However, later on, the teaching at the Academy encountered difficulties caused by the circumstances of family life. Turning to the second year, Nesterov got married, there were children, and he had to take care of the material support of a large family. He was forced to move several times to the position of a volunteer and leave for the painting of churches for the hire of contractors. As a result, studies at the Academy extended from six to ten years. [one]
The contest picture, which Fedor Panfilovich carried out under the guidance of Chistyakov, was on a given theme - “The meeting of Varlaam Khutynsky by the Novgorod metropolitan Anthony”. The diploma film was a success, won the second place in the competition, and its author was awarded the title of artist of painting. [one]
At the spring exhibitions at the Academy of Arts, at the exhibitions of the Association of Petrograd Artists, Nesterov spoke with portraits, genre scenes on the outskirts of the capital, and landscapes. At the last Spring Exhibition of Petrograd Artists, Fyodor Panfilovich showed ten genre works that were awarded the second prize and were widely published in print. Of the works of this period, time has preserved three canvases of the artist, and among them the most expressive is the “Mother”. The pencil drawing “Old St. Petersburg Worker” and watercolor “The Militia Warrior” can be considered artistic and historical documents of the beginning of the century. [one]
After the Great October Revolution , having demobilized from the army in which he had been located since the end of 1916, Fyodor Panfilovich moved to Moscow. In the difficult situation of civil war and the most severe economic chaos, he seeks to be useful in his art to new life tasks. He paints portraits of revolutionaries, performs campaign posters, finds time to decorate slogans on banners and camps of buildings [1] .
At the end of 1918, Nesterov sent the Commissariat of Public Enlightenment to the town of Sudzha, Kursk Province , where, as a mobilized artist, he was able to devote himself to some degree and direct creative work, writing for himself from life what worried and drew his attention. A series of works in oils, drawings and watercolors was created in Sudzha, which the artist called “Kuryane”. Taken as a whole, they give a figurative picture of the people of that difficult transitional period. [one]
In 1921, a home for street children was organized in Sudzha, which collected street children from all over the province. Homeless children willingly posed for Nesterov and he managed to create a whole series of sketches. [one]
Living and working in Sudzha, Fedor Panfilovich contributed to the artistic design of the city, taking part in the creation of the first theater building and summer garden. Sudzha is the birthplace of the great Russian actor Shchepkin . Nesterov wrote etudes of the school building, in which the creator of our stage realism first appeared, and the house where the school teachers lived. These studies have found their place in the Central Theater Museum named after A. A. Bakhrushin. [one]
Since 1923, Fyodor Panfilovich returns to Moscow, where he lives until the end of his days. Immediately upon arrival, he worked as an artist on the designation of the Agricultural Exhibition, for which he painted panels, portraits, made various sketches. In the autumn of the same year, Nesterov was appointed a drawing teacher at the 26th single labor school in the Bauman district . Pedagogical activity Nesterov gave 15 years, but during these years he took part in various exhibitions: 1927 - the VII exhibition of the Association of Artists of Revolutionary Russia , which was called “Revolution, Labor, Life”. Shows his work at exhibitions of paintings by the Society of Artists named after I. Ye. Repin , which was organized by him along with A. P. Hotulev. [one]
Since 1932, Fyodor Panfilovich was a member of the Moscow Organization of the Union of Artists of the RSFSR, since its foundation. [one]
On his own initiative, Nesterov traveled to Chuvashia in 1935–1936, where he created about twenty works in the village of Bolshoi Sundyr (“Kolkhoz Shepherd”, “Podpasok”, “Reaper”, “At the Mill”). [one]
During the Great Patriotic War, Nesterov showed himself as a true patriot of the Motherland. He tried to contribute to the defense of the state by creating a whole series of works that would help raise the spirit of the people. One of the watercolors, entitled "On firing position", was published as a postcard by the publishing house "Art" in 1942. [one]
The artist died February 6, 1966 in the ninetieth year of life.
In 1977 an exhibition of Nesterov was held in Moscow, timed to coincide with the artist’s centenary. In the city of Sudzha, to the 100th anniversary of the artist’s birth, a memorial plaque on the house was opened. where this wonderful artist lived and worked.
10 genre works from the Spring exhibition of Petrograd artists were bought and taken to Copenhagen. Subsequently, foreign collectors purchased about 40 more paintings, which are now in private collections. Many works were killed during the civil war. [2]
