It was formed in 1877 from the Kalmyks of the former Baldyr hundreds of the Upper ulus of the Kalmyk district of the land of the Great Don Army [2] . It is named after the ataman of the Don Army A.L. Potapova . According to the “List of Populated Places” of 1859, there were 670 people in 228 households in the Boldyr (Potapov) one. Also, the former Belyaevskaya and Erketinskaya hundreds entered the yurt of the village (subsequently became separate villages) [3]

According to the data of the first general census of the population of the Russian Empire in 1897, 174 male and 192 female souls lived in the village of Potapovskaya, as well as 19 male souls at the local khurula [4] .

At the beginning of the 20th century , five khuruls acted in the yurt of the Potapov village [5] . On the territory of the village were temporary settlements Lapina, Kudinov-Kut , Zyk, Hulusta-Nur , Mazanovskoye, Koshary. In the yurt of the village, up to 20 thousand acres were sown, which is almost equal to 22 thousand hectares, wheat, barley, millet on 205 tithes and even flax on 100 tithes were sown. There were about 12,000 heads of cattle, including 180 camels and even 2,500 fine-fleeced sheep [6] . According to the Alphabetical List of the Populated Areas of the Region, the Don troops of the 1915 edition had 92 yards in the village, 228 male and 187 female souls lived [7] .

As a result of the Civil War and the resettlement of Kalmyks to the territory of the Kalmyk Autonomous Region formed in 1920, the Kalmyk population of the village declined sharply. Many moved to the village of Bichkin-Kel , the village of Potapo-Belyaevskoye of the Gorodovikovsky district [5] . Obviously, due to the reduction in population, the village was transformed into the Potapovsky farm. As of 1926, the farm was part of the Gureevsky Village Council of the Dubovsky District of the Salsky District of the North Caucasus Territory . According to the 1926 All-Union Population Census, there were 72 households in the Potapovsky farm, the population of the farm was 412 people, including 394 Ukrainians [8] .

In 1929, with the formation of the Kalmyk National District, the farm remained beyond its borders. In 1932, the remaining Kalmyks , due to their remoteness from other settlements of the Kalmyk region, were resettled in the Stoyanovsky farm of the former village of Novo-Alekseevskaya , which was renamed the village of Stoyanovskaya [9] .
