Biography
Born in Zurich in the family of the publisher, raised in Winterthur . He studied at a commercial school, worked as a student in a cardboard factory, as a carpenter, as an auxiliary worker in a construction site, as a gardener in Southern France, and as a copywriter in an advertising agency in Zurich. In 1957-1959, he independently prepared and passed an exam for a certificate of maturity. He studied German studies, psychology and philosophy at the University of Zurich and received a PhD in 1969, defending a dissertation on F. Kafka 's story “Metamorphoses”. In 1969-1979 he worked in a pedagogical publishing house and at the same time studied group psychotherapy . Since 1979 he worked as a private psychotherapist and at the same time conducted literary work.
In the work of Schubiger, mythology and everyday reality, fairy tales and philosophical reflections are wonderfully intertwined. Schubiger’s short stories written for children are in many ways similar to classic tales, many of which are animals or objects. His works for children include poems , short stories, comics and short stories, but he also has novels. About the works of Schubiger, they say that he writes about the adult world, looking at him from the world of childhood. The main characters of Schubiger’s books are children who discover the world; it would seem that then the same inquisitive children should be the main readers, but Schubiger’s books attract many adults as well, because of their philosophical depth and life wisdom hiding behind deliberate simplicity.
