Vessel History

The keel of the ship under building number 421 was laid down at the Finnyards Finnish yard in Rauma on September 2, 1997. [4] The icebreaker was launched on February 20, 1998 [4] . After the construction was completed, the vessel was transferred to the Finnish Maritime Administration and until 2012 performed ice pilotage of vessels flying the Finnish flag. Port of registry Helsinki. Due to cold winters, severe ice conditions and ice buildup off the Estonian coast, as well as the absence of its own fleet of modern icebreakers, with the exception of the Tarmo icebreaker built in the middle of the last century, on October 24, 2012 [6] Tallinna Sadam ( Tallinn Port ) bought from a Finnish icebreaker company Botnica for 50 million euros [5] for operation in winter off the Estonian coast and leasing the latter off-season to Russian oil companies. An icebreaker is capable of breaking ice 1.2 meters thick [7] .

Technical equipment

The Botnica icebreaker has 12 Caterpillar 3512B DITA diesel engines with a total power of 15.0 MW, which allows you to go at a speed of 16.5 knots using two ABB rotary helical-steering columns , each of which has a power of 5 MW. In the nose there are 3 tunnel thrusters of the Brunvoll brand with a capacity of 1150 kW each.

The main crane of the ship for underwater operations has a lifting capacity of 150 tons.

In the bow of the vessel there is a helicopter landing pad capable of receiving helicopters weighing up to 11.2 tons [8] .

On board

On board the icebreaker there are cabins for accommodating a team expanded to 72 people, a lounge, a dining room and a coffee shop, a laundry, a sports corner, a sauna, a kiosk, and a hospital.
