Belorizy

Belorizy is a religious sect, discovered in 1866 in the village of Petrova, Sudogodsky Uyezd, Vladimir Province [1] .

The name “Beloriza” was given by the local bishop because the sectarians performed their worship in white long shirts ( vestments ) and white linen belts [2] [3] .

According to the ESBE: “ The teachings of the Belorizans are a mixture of various sectarian views with an obvious predominance of Molokans, which was widespread in the Vladimir province in the 1830-1840s. Like the Molokans, B. did not recognize the visible church, sv. they reject the saints, deny the priesthood, claiming that the bishop and priest of the church is only Jesus Christ . Like the Fedoseyevites, marriage is called fornication and they seem to live chastely, like monks; Like the eunuchs, they don’t eat meat or any hot drinks. They don’t pray for the king, they don’t take passports [1] . ”

Also, members of the sect refrained from touching money with their bare hands. Considering themselves to be enlightened from above, Belorussians recognized themselves alone as true and spiritual Christians [3] . The most common prayer between them was: “ Father, Lord God of heaven and earth! You have hidden this whole from the wise and rational, and opened this this to simple babies ”(that is, Belorizians) [1] .
