Devil's (Chetovy) rocks - a group of rocks, as well as a hill and a natural monument of local importance. Located on the southern outskirts of the village of Lisinichi ( Pustomytovsky district , Lviv region ), between the cities of Lviv and Vynnyky , within the Vinnikovsky forest park .
The cliffs are located on the top of a wooded hill (height of 414 meters above sea level) and on its northern slopes, which are steeply stepped off towards the village of Lisinichi. The maximum height of the cliffs is up to 20 m. The cliffs consist of Upper Torton sandstones (more than 10 million years old) and were once higher. During the last centuries, stone was mined here for building and paving roads. The central rock, located at the very top of the hill, is low, at its foot has a small grotto (obviously, man-made). Some other rocks are used by climbers for training.
The whole rock group is very picturesque, and because of its easy accessibility and proximity to Lviv, it is a favorite resting place of Lviv.
You can climb to the rocks from the village of Lisinichi, from the Lviv-Vinniki highway (from the Vinnikovo Lake stop, about 2 km), or by rail from the yeast factory.
Archeology
Lviv regional expedition of the Institute of Ukrainian Studies. In 1973, Ivan Kripyakevich of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine discovered and surveyed the tract of the Devil's Rock and the grounds in front of it. In the upper horizon, materials of the 18th — 20th centuries are recorded, as well as fragments of utensils from the early iron age (the Scythian period ) and numerous bones of animals, in particular domesticated ones. In horizon II, at the depths from 50–65 cm to 135–140 cm, remains of only wild animals were found ( noble and northern deer , fox , badger , birds, etc.) and flint products, scrapers and knives . Dating by C14 showed the age of these findings - 8500 years from our days. In horizon III (from 135–140 to 200–205 cm from the surface) the remains of a mammoth , reindeer, birds, and other animals were found, and from flint products, scrapers, incisors and knives (13,500 years ago) were found. In horizon IV, the bones of a mammoth, reindeer, primitive horse and other animals were found, and of stone and bone products, scrapes , knives and punctures were found. The complex is dated to the late Paleolithic (27,200 years ago).
According to archaeologists, under the rock was the oldest settlement on the territory of Lviv - a hunting camp. It existed before Kirillovskaya parking in Kiev (19 thousand years ago) and settlements on Spazhisty street in Krakow (25 thousand years ago). Ancient hunters hunted mammoths, cave bears and lions in the territory of present Lviv. In the upper sediments in the canopy of Lviv VII, remnants of material culture from the times of the Galician-Volyn prince Daniel and his son Leo were also found.
