Salvador Sanchez ( Eng. Salvador Sanchez ; January 26, 1959 , Mexico - August 12, 1982 , Mexico ) - the legendary Mexican boxer - professional , who performed in the featherweight category. World Champion in the featherweight ( WBC version, 1980 - 1982 ) weight category. One of the best Mexican boxers in history. Member of the International Boxing Hall of Fame in Canastot.

Professional career

Debuted in May 1975 .

In February 1980, Sanchez met with the WBC Featherweight champion, legendary American Danny Lopez . Sanchez won by TKO in the 13th round.

In April 1980, Sanchez held the 1st title defense against American Ruben Castillo . Sanchez won by unanimous decision after 15 rounds.

In June 1980, Sanchez met in revenge with former world champion Danny Lopez . Sanchez defeated by technical knockout in the 14th round.

In September 1980, Sanchez carried out the 3rd title defense against the gay-man Patrick Ford . Sanchez won the decision of the majority of judges following the results of 15 rounds.

In December 1980, Sanchez met with a Puerto Rican Juan LaPorte . Sanchez won by unanimous decision after 15 rounds.

Gomez was on the floor for the second time during the fight, the referee counted the knockdown. Gomez got to his feet, indicating that he was ready to continue the fight. However, the referee, evaluating his condition, gave the go-ahead to stop the fight. Sanchez won by TKO in the 8th round.

In December 1981, Sanchez met with Briton Patrick Cowdell . At the end of the 15th round, Sanchez hit the Briton with a right-handed knockdown, but he managed to get up and continue the fight. Following the results of 15 rounds, Sanchez won by a separate decision of the judges.

Death

In August 1982, Salvador Sanchez died in a car accident. His white Porsche collided head-on with a truck heading towards when Sanchez drove into the oncoming lane, trying to overtake a truck heading in front of him.
