The 1989 parliamentary elections were held in Laos on March 26th. [1] These were the first parliamentary elections that took place after the Lao People's Revolutionary Party (NPL) came to power. In total, 121 candidates claimed 79 seats in the National Assembly, of which approximately two-thirds were members of the NPL. NPL won, winning 65 places. [2] Voter turnout was 98.4%. [1] .
