The 1976 World Figure Skating Championships were held by the International Skating Union on March 2–7 in Gothenburg ( Sweden ). Competitions were held in the categories of women's single skating , men's single skating , pair skating and ice dancing . The competition was attended by a record number of sports delegations from 23 countries.

The world champion among women was the US representative Dorothy Hamill , among men the representative of Great Britain John Curry , among the pairs representatives of the USSR Irina Rodnina and Alexander Zaitsev , representatives of the USSR Lyudmila Pakhomova and Alexander Gorshkov won the dances.
