Busia is a city in Uganda , the center of the eponymous district in the Eastern Region . Population - 47,100 (2011) [1] .

Geography
The city is located in the very east of Uganda, near the border with Kenya . The distance to the capital of the country, Kampala , is approximately 202 km (in a straight line - 168.63 km) [2] . Immediately across the border in Kenya is the district, also called Busia (with the administrative center of the same name). Nearby is Lake Victoria .

Economics
The city is an important trading center, through it, as well as the neighboring cities of Malaba (Kenya) and Malaba (Uganda) trade and human flows between the countries of the East African community . Coffee , cotton and wood are exported from Uganda via Busia - they then go to the Kenyan port of Mombasa , from where they are transported to many countries of the world. Kenya exports fish, bananas , pineapples and mangoes , maize , legumes , peanuts and sorghum . At the same time, oil , vegetable oil , soap , clothing , electronics and automobiles are imported through Uganda to Uganda.
Population
The population of the city is growing steadily: if in 2002 36 630 people lived here, then in 2010 - 45 700, and in 2011 - 47 100 [1] .
