Biography
Berit Viaker was born on June 15, 1982 in Duisburg , North Rhine-Westphalia . From a young age she was fond of sports, was actively involved in athletics, in particular, she ran at a distance of 100 m with barriers. In 2000, she was awarded the title of champion of Bavaria in this discipline, got into the junior national team of the country, however, after a change of coach, she began a period of stagnation when the development of the athlete stopped, and any significant results ceased to appear. In order to get out of the current crisis situation, in 2002 Viaker decided to try herself in bobsled, she was selected for the national team of Germany and joined her as a dispersal.
The first time she played in a pair of Kathleen Martini , in the 2003/04 season they made their debut in the World Cup, at the stage in the American Lake Placid they immediately showed the third time. However, the following year, Viaker joined the crew of the leading German helmsman Sandra Kiriasis - the two of them were the first at most stages and eventually became the owners of the Cup. At the same time, the athlete was constantly forced to compete with other overclockers, her main rivals at that time were Anya Schneiderheinze and Romy Logs . In 2006, Berit Viaker won several cup races, but could not make it to the Olympic Games in Turin because of high competition.
At the 2007 World Championships in St. Moritz, Switzerland, she won a gold medal in mixed bobsleigh and skeleton competitions, the next season at the home championship in Altenberg she repeated this achievement, in addition, she won the double crew program at the European Championships. In 2009, she won the second gold of the continental championship in her track record, however, she did not get to the Vancouver Olympics again. A year later, at the world championship in KΓΆnigssee, she did not reach the prize places a little, the crew finished fourth with Kiriasis, but she took another gold of the European championship. In 2012, at the World Championships in Lake Placid, she replenished the medal collection with silver of the mixed bobsleigh-skeleton program, while she did not participate in traditional women's deuces at all, giving way to overclocking Petra Lammert . In addition to playing sports, Berit Viaker also serves in the German police.
