Biography
Son of Jacob van Loo ; born in Amsterdam, he arrived in Paris as a young man; together with his father and brother Jean ( fr: Jean van Loo ) in 1667 became a French subject.
He studied painting and received the first award from the Royal Academy of Painting in 1671 , becoming the 8th winner of the Academy; with his brother, who became the 11th winner in the same year. He moved to Nice, then returned to France and settled in Aix in 1683, where he received several orders from local churches. In 1683, he married Marie Fosse, the daughter of the sculptor Jacques Fosse. Among the disciples are his sons Jean-Baptiste and Charles-Andre . He died in Nice in 1712.
