Length - 19 km. The river arises as a result of the confluence of two streams in the south of Zwolle , at first it flows mainly to the north, but in the northern part of Zwolle it turns in the north-west direction, flows through Hasselt and Zvartsleys , near Genemöiden falling into Zwart-Mer (“ black lake ”), connected with the IJsselmeer .
The largest tributary is Fechte . Zwarte-Water is connected to the IJssel River by two channels. The first Willemswart Canal, built in 1819, is no longer in use. Communication takes place via another Zwolle-IJssel channel, 2.5 km long, [1] discovered in 1964. [2]
